The calendar says spring — and we’re choosing to believe it!
It might not feel like it yet, but longer days, lighter evenings, and that fresh-start energy are creeping in. Whether you’re still layering up or dreaming of dry trails and sunny runs, this seasonal shift is worth celebrating. Let’s shake off winter and get moving toward whatever’s next.

Welcome (and welcome back) to RUN CLUB!
Wow! The dome was full of energy this week!
We’re so excited to have our Kids Program back for the spring session—and even more excited to see so many returning faces (and lots of new ones, too)!
You may have noticed some changes if you’ve got a young athlete in our Run Jump Throw group. Thanks to an amazing team of volunteer coaches, we’re now able to offer all three elements—run, jump, and throw—every single week! This means more variety, more movement, and way more fun.
Week 1 was all about orientation—getting to know each other, learning the flow of the session, and introducing everyone to the events. Here’s a quick recap of what we did:
🏃 RUN Station: We explored different ways to move, practiced relays, and played a new favourite—the Chain Relay, where runners work as a team to link up and move together.
🎯 THROW Station: Kids tested out different techniques and wrapped up with a fun overhead relay.
🦘 JUMP Station: We practiced safe landings, jumped for distance and height, and finished with—you guessed it—another relay!
Our Youth group focused on pacing, drills, and teamwork. They tackled a lap plus exercises challenge and ended with a crowd favourite: British Bulldog. Bonus: Coach Michelle now has homework… finding new games to keep things fresh! 😄
We’re off to a great start—can’t wait for what’s ahead!
New York Central Fitness Trail parkrun
With spring comes melting but also freezing, leaving our parkrun route a hazardous, icy mess this week. While we had to cancel parkrun this week, we're optimistic that these days of cold temps and hazardous surfaces are soon behind us!
Parkrun is a free timed 5km run, walk or jog every Saturday at 9:00 AM. To register, go to https://www.parkrun.ca/register/. You only have to do it once. Remember to bring your barcode or screenshot it on your phone.
What Was the Russell Run Club Up to This Week?
Club Members Getting Back into the Running Groove.

"Back out running a couple of times this week after quite a few weeks off. Working toward the 5 km on Race Weekend in May." Jeanette M.

"It’s been a great week for me! Started off slow due to a bruised bone injury (June 2024), but my new Hoka Bondi 9s have me questioning all my past choices—feels like I’ve been doing running shoes wrong my whole life, lol. Managed to walk 16K pain-free, which feels like real progress. Slow and steady, but I’m already dreaming of running in a few weeks!" Véro S.
"10km today - 31km total this week. Ready to ramp up some more. Minimal pain in the Achilles - back to a regular running schedule and incorporate some speed." Tara Q.
"I am happy to start seeing these distances again. I will be happier if I can do them in shorts and not deal with a frozen water hose." Michelle L.

"2 WEEKS! The doctor said I can start running again in 2 weeks!" Craig P.
