Jumping & Shuttling into the Weekend with Youth / Run Jump Throw Program
Do you wonder what goes on with our kid's program? Here is what happened this week:
It must have been an active week for the gang. Warm-ups are supposed to energize the group, but it seems like most of them just rolled out of bed. Thank goodness there was not too much running this week. By the end, they were all woken up, ready to take on the weekend.
We started the session with the "Rocket and Rabbit" game - pool noodle edition. Then we got into our dynamic stretching and drills. It's our second week, but they are getting the A's down pat.
Jumps were on the schedule for the younger group. We learned how to jump high and far. A jumping and relay game followed the skill. The older group learned proper running form. We had the gang run down the track - two at a time while the coaches looked at their form. The other kids waiting in line also played "coach" providing constructive feedback to the runners. Then they wrapped it up with a Bean Bag Shuttle relay.
Russell Run Mugs Sneak Preview
The Russell Run is getting to be well known for its unique, hand crafted mugs that awarded to the top 3 finishers. This year will be no different with our local potter, Christina Stapper, providing us with this sneak peak into what this year's mugs might look like

We are also known for our buff swag. So far, we have blue, orange, and red. Can you get the colour this year? Put your answer in the comments.

What was the Russell Run Club Up To This Week?
This is what Clair S. did this weekend:
I did my first Canicross run for the Fall season. It was liberating as it was on the Guindon trail in Cornwall, with my Labrador, Huckleberry. I love this sport as when we are in sync with our dogs pulling, we have longer more powerful strides, and go fast. I did the tail runner role this time making sure all were okay in the new-to-it-dog section( you can see me looking fuzzy in the back). We do intervals of a minute run full on, with a minute recovery.....This time we did a 3K session. That was enough for my dog, but I wish he could go longer because flying is fun.

This is from Ashley M:
Terry Fox run at our school last week. Fun to watch all the kids really enjoy it and do it for an amazing cause.
And Dominic F. is getting back into running.
I cut the grass and chopped branches on my home track… that where I started running 3.5 years ago. It’s a 1km loop around the 8acres front part of my property. Run/walked 7km Thursday ... going to start putting running back into my schedule gradually.
From upper left hand corner moving clockwise:
Tuesday Evening Group Run/Walk
Track Thurday
Mel & Julie at the Track
Craig reached a 666-day running streak. 😈
Jamie: "Not exactly a run, but I did a 12km hike (800m elevation) in Banff this week!"
Melanie and Tara post-workout.
